The Idea
of putting together 19 magazines that were printed back in the late 70's came
about
from a conversation on the return trip from a skate session, one that'll never
be forgotten.
"I'd love to see em all again"
"It's doable yea why not?"
It was never going to
be easy to do.... 19 mags from way back in 78 !!
The reasons for doing it became stronger as it became evident that everyone
spoken to, had never seen all the issues
& the majority had either been long parted from their copies or only had
one or two somewhere buried in a loft !.
A BIG chunk of UK Skateboarding History was all
but lost to a generation that it had greatly influenced.
It could not be left as so.
So whether you just want
to look back & reminisce fondly on those days gone bye,
or view again some of the most stylish, evocative
& eye popping photography that's still influencing today's skateboarding
scene...
or if historically it means a whole lot more to you than that... From the
first almost painful looking issue
to the middle issues that swell with the rise of confidence... & sales
!...
to the last,..the bubble had burst, but those pictures show just how far we
had progressed.
So here it is.....gathered together from all corners of the UK
ENJOY
The BIGGEST THANKS goes out to all the people who helped in submitting to this archive,
You know who you are.
It couldn't have been done without you.
Despite
getting hold of 3 bulk collections of magazines which covered 16 out of 19,
it amazingly took over 80 magazines & over 2200 scans in total to complete
the project,
Finding good enough covers & middle posters was the biggest challenge.
Also finding that issues had been cut to pieces from scissor attacks only
compiled the complexity.
Also, .. Thanks goes to those who amazingly helped through contacting on internet
sales sites,
of people willing to spend time scanning pages & sending them to someone
they've never even met.
Such still was the enthusiasm born of the late 70's skateboarder.
